DALLAS — Cooper Flagg continued his record-setting rookie season Friday, even as his Mavericks lost their 14th consecutive home game.
The Dallas Mavericks forward scored 51 points in his team’s 138-127 home loss to the Orlando Magic, become the youngest player in NBA history to cross the 50-point mark.
The 19-year-old Flagg broke his own record for the highest-scoring game by a teenager, exceeding the 49 points he notched on Jan. 29 against the Charlotte Hornets.
Flagg was sitting on 27 points entering the fourth quarter Friday, then exploded for 24 points in the final frame. He had 45 points when he appeared to check out of the game for the final time with the Mavericks down by 17 with three minutes and 35 seconds remaining, but returned to the floor 13 seconds later. He quickly scored six points to exceed 50, hitting a 3 from the right corner, then converting an and-1 with 2:05 left for his final points of the game.

Flagg made 19 of the 30 shots he attempted and connected on six 3-pointers, a career high.
The Mavericks are now 24-53 with five games remaining in their season.
